The RailScanPro mobile app is designed for the moments when you're away from your desk — crawling under the layout to grab a loco, walking a train show, or checking what's in a storage box at midnight.
Installing the App
- iOS: Search "RailScanPro" in the App Store (requires iOS 16 or later)
- Android: Search "RailScanPro" in Google Play (requires Android 12 or later)
Sign in with the same email and password as your web account. Everything syncs automatically.
Core Features on Mobile
Quick Scan
The large Scan button on the home screen opens your camera immediately. Works for:
- QR labels — jump instantly to the item record
- AI Photo Identification — point at any locomotive or car and the AI identifies it
Add Items On the Go
Tap Add → AI Scan to photograph and catalog items at a train show before you even get home. The app queues additions if you're offline and syncs when you reconnect.
Update Location
When you move equipment between storage boxes or onto the layout:
- Scan the QR code
- Tap Location
- Select or type the new location
- Done — the web dashboard updates in real time
Browse Your Inventory
Search, filter by scale/category/condition, and view photos from your phone. Tap any item to see the full record including purchase history and valuation.
Operations Mode
During an operations session, use the mobile app as a digital car card reader. Scan a car to see its current waybill destination, empty/loaded status, and move history.
Offline Mode
The app caches your last-synced inventory locally. You can browse and add items without a network connection. Changes sync the next time you're online.
Note: AI photo identification requires an internet connection — the AI processing happens on RailScanPro's servers.
Notifications
Enable push notifications to get alerts when:
- A marketplace item you're watching drops in price
- A club member assigns equipment to your roster for an ops session
- Your subscription is about to renew
Manage notifications in the app under Settings → Notifications.
Tips for Layout Room Use
- Mount your phone on a small tripod near the staging yard — keeps hands free while cataloging during an ops session
- Turn off auto-lock while scanning large batches (Settings → Display → Auto-Lock: Never during app)
- Use two-finger swipe to quickly move between recently scanned items
