Your Railroad Profile is the foundation of RailScanPro. It tells the platform what scale you model, what era you're in, and how to personalize suggestions for your collection.
Where to Find It
Go to Settings → Railroad Profile. This is separate from your personal account profile — you can have multiple railroad profiles if you model in more than one scale (available on Pro and above plans).
Core Fields
Railroad Name
What you call your layout. Examples: "Western Pacific Coast Division HO", "WagnerLines", "The Colorado Midland in N Scale". This name appears on your public page (if enabled) and on reports.
Primary Scale
Select the scale that represents most of your collection. RailScanPro uses this to:
- Pre-fill the scale field when you add items
- Filter marketplace results to matching scale
- Show era-appropriate reference photos during AI identification
Supported scales: Z, N, TT, HO, S, O, On3, G, and custom.
Prototype Road(s)
If you model a specific real-world railroad (e.g., Union Pacific, Baltimore & Ohio), enter it here. Casey AI uses this to give more relevant answers about your equipment and era.
Era / Time Period
The modeling era helps AI recognition pick the right liveries and equipment classes. Select from:
- Early Steam (1830–1900)
- Late Steam (1900–1950)
- Transition (1950–1970)
- Modern (1970–2025)
- Contemporary (2025+)
Layout Type
Tell RailScanPro whether you have an operating layout, a display collection, a club layout, or are in planning/construction. This affects which features are shown prominently on your dashboard.
Advanced Settings
DCC System — Select your DCC command station brand (Digitrax, NCE, ESU, Märklin, etc.) if you use one. This unlocks roster sync features for connected layouts.
Public Page — Enable this to create a public URL for your railroad (e.g., railscanpro.com/r/wagnerlines) where visitors can browse your roster and photos.
Measurement Units — Choose between US Standard and Metric for dimensions on items.
Multiple Railroad Profiles
Pro plan and above lets you create additional profiles for a second scale or a separate layout at a club. Switch between profiles from the top navigation bar.
