On June 8, 1934, the Union Pacific Railroad introduced its revolutionary M-10000 articulated streamliner to the public with a demonstration run from Omaha. Powered by a 600-horsepower distillate engine and featuring lightweight aluminum construction, it achieved speeds over 100 mph. Designed by industrial stylist Walter Dorwin Teague, the train marked the dawn of the streamlined era in American railroading. It competed directly with emerging air and auto travel, inspiring a fleet of diesel streamliners.
