The 16 km Frankfurt-Hanau line marked an early expansion of the German rail network in the post-Napoleonic era. Built with standard gauge and powered by early 2-2-2 locomotives, it facilitated trade along the Main River and integrated with the emerging Ludwig's Western Railway. Engineers overcame river crossings with innovative timber viaducts. This route later became part of the Prussian state railways, boosting regional industrialization and setting standards for German mainline construction.
