On July 19, 1903, the Prussian state railways launched regular electric multiple unit operations on the Berlin-Stettiner railway suburban section. Using third-rail power at 750 V DC, the trains featured motor cars built by Siemens & Halske. This innovation reduced smoke in urban tunnels and improved acceleration for frequent stops. The service carried thousands of commuters daily and demonstrated the viability of electric traction for dense suburban networks, paving the way for Berlin's extensive S-Bahn system and influencing electrification projects across Europe.
