On July 29, 1858, Argentina inaugurated its first railroad when the Buenos Aires Western Railway opened a 10-kilometer line from Buenos Aires to Floresta. The inaugural train carried dignitaries and citizens, symbolizing modernization in a nation still recovering from civil wars. This modest beginning spurred rapid expansion across the pampas, transforming agriculture and trade.
