Payment Failed? Fix a Declined Payment

A failed payment doesn't mean you lose your account or data. Here's how to resolve it quickly.

Why Payments Fail

The most common reasons a card is declined for a subscription renewal:

  • Card expired — most common cause; check the expiration date on your card
  • Insufficient funds — on a debit card linked to a bank account
  • Bank fraud detection — your bank sometimes blocks recurring charges from unfamiliar merchants
  • Card number changed — after a reissued card (often due to a compromised number)
  • Billing address mismatch — the address on file doesn't match your bank's records
  • Soft decline — a temporary bank-side error that resolves with a retry

Step 1 — Update Your Payment Method

  1. Go to Settings → Subscription → Payment Method
  2. Click Update Card
  3. Enter your new card number, expiration, and CVV
  4. Click Save

After updating, click Retry Payment on the same page. The charge attempts immediately.

Step 2 — Check for Bank Blocks

If your card is current and not expired, call your bank (the number on the back of the card) and ask them to:

  • Whitelist recurring charges from "Winsit LLC" or "RailScanPro"
  • Check whether a recent fraud flag blocked the charge

Once the bank clears the block, retry the payment from Settings → Subscription → Retry Payment.

Step 3 — Use a Different Card

If the current card continues to fail, add a different card:

  1. Go to Settings → Subscription → Payment Method
  2. Enter a different card's details
  3. The new card replaces the old one immediately

What Happens If Payment Stays Failed

RailScanPro attempts to charge your card:

  • On the renewal date
  • 3 days later
  • 7 days later

If all three attempts fail, your account enters a Grace Period:

Grace Period Stage What You Can Do
Days 1–14 Full access, payment required to continue
Days 15–30 Read-only access to all data
After 30 days Free plan limits apply; data preserved

Your data is never deleted due to non-payment. Even in the worst case, your inventory, photos, and history are preserved.

Restarting After a Lapse

If your subscription lapsed completely:

  1. Sign in (your account still works)
  2. Go to Settings → Subscription → Reactivate
  3. Choose a plan and enter payment details
  4. All your data is immediately restored to its last state
